Beloved, I pray that in every way you may succeed and prosper and be in good health [physically], just as [I know] your soul prospers [spiritually].
3 John 2 (Amp)
Life on earth is funny. It has this uncanny way of shifting our focus from what truly matters. We find ourselves focussing our strength and energy on the temporal, rather than on the permanent. We make plans, we strategize and we go all out for what we want. And there is nothing wrong with that.
But, do we put that same effort on the permanent? Do we take time to meditate on what really matters?
James 4:14( NKJV) reminds us:
…For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.
There is a song that has been ringing in my spirit recently, ‘ This World is Not my Home’ by Jim Reeves. The lyrics that I keep repeating to myself are:
This world is not my home I’m just a passing through
My treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue
The angels beckon me from heaven’s open door
And I can’t feel at home in this world anymore
Moses prayed:
Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Psalm 90:12 (NIV)
We are here on this earth for a very short time. While we strive to live the “good life”, we forget that eternal life awaits us. John 3:16 reminds us that God has eternity in mind for us. He is concerned about our souls,so much so that we cannot afford to overlook the prosperity of our souls! I dont know about you, but if the Creator cares about my soul…I need to care about it as well.
Jesus assures us in John 10:10(KJV):
…I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
The amplified version says : that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance (to the full, till it overflows).
Life in Christ, which is eternal life, is the prosperity of the soul.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Mark 8:36 (KJV)
There is no greater sorrow than having physical prosperity, but spiritual poverty.
How can you gain this prosperity of the soul?
Romans 10:9(NIV) tells us how:
That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
It is as simple as that. Salvation is the key to eternal life. It is the gate to the prosperity of our souls.
Now, you get to live in this prosperity, through the studying, meditating and acting on the Word of God with the Holy Spirit as your Teacher and Guide! How amazing is that! 😊
