The Generous God
At the core of true prosperity is the generous God. The generous God who wants you to prosper spiritually, physically and materially as well.
He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all– how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?
Romans 8:32
The above mirror says it all. In fact this post could end right here, having captured the generosity of God.
God has been generous since the beginning of time. It is at the core of who He is.
[…] because God is love.
1 John 4:8
1 Corinthians 13:4 tells us love is kind…therefore God is kind…it is just who He is. You cannot seperate the two.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
John 3:16
Out of His generosity, God gave us His Son. And in His Son we have life in abundance.
[…] I came that they may have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows].
John 10:10
And He asks us…if He could give us His ONLY Son…what else would be off limits?
And if nothing else would be off limits, why do we act like we have to convince Him to meet our needs, to receive blessings etc ? Why do we act like we need to convince Him to release His resources to us. Can our needs or desires compare to His Son? No they cannot! They do not come close.
If He freely gave us His Son, whom noone and nothing can compare to…will He suddenly require us to ‘pay’ for the lesser gifts. Will He require us to sow a seed of X amount to receive a lower blessing, when the highest blessing was free? The answer is NO. I am not against giving, but it is unscriptural to carry out ‘financial transactions’ with God in exchange for what He freely and generously gives us.
If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven [perfect as He is] give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking Him.
Matthew 7:11
And what happens when we ask Him for what is good and advantageous?
Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:7-8
Your Turn
I used to bribe God with my giving. I believed I could not go before Him empty handed and therefore my relationship with Him was based on what I had. It also led me to believe that in order for me to be able to claim anything from Him, I had to first present Him with something i.e. MONEY.
And because of this I subconsciously believed that my financial status was a reflection of whether or not God was pleased me.
How wrong I was! God is a generous God. He does not put any preconditions on His generosity…He is just generous. Do you, like me, need a reformatting on your view of God? I am not saying He will give you everything you ask for, when you ask for it…but if He deems it good and advantageous for you, as any good father, He will give it to to you freely!
How amazing is that?
