The Visionaries: A Yearlong Series

The Visionaries

I rarely know what I am going to write about. In fact there are days I have no clue what the post I shall put up that day will say. All I know is that I shall put up a post. Every article I have put up has either been a lesson for me or very public therapy 😂😂😂 There are times I read my posts and I am like, “Noni, too much information!” But then I am reminded that I write not just for me, but for you as well.

With this background, you can imagine my total surprise when I received the skeleton of this year’s posts! A very pleasant surprise it was 😀

This year, we are going to encounter 50 people, men and women of old, who turned the world upside down with their lives. These 50 individuals are by no means perfect. All of them faced challenges, yet all of them left their finger print on this earth. We shall meet these individuals and look at their lives through the eyes of vision.

Vision…that is the theme of this year. Why are we focusing on vision for a whole year?

Where there is no vision, the people perish […]
Proverbs 29:18

King David made the following statements:

My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.
Psalm 139:15-16

Each of us has a book that informs our lives. In that book is the perfect will of God for our lives. It is in our best interests to surrender to His vision for our lives, if we are to operate in the fullness of who He created us to be. And this is the assurance we have:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Jeremiah 29:11

If we let it, life can become a series of mundane tasks. We will go through the cycle of life, without actually experiencing life. And as we near our expiration dates, we will be filled with regret of what could have been.

The other day as I was driving, a luxury car passed in front of me and I admired it. In my spirit, I heard these questions, “Would you trade your destiny for a car, a house, riches? How much would you cost your destiny?” I was caught off guard by these questions and I was forced to examine my motives. Why do I do what I do? Is my motivation for life, money? Would I still do what I am doing if my only payment was , “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Would I still choose to walk down the path God has for me, if I never received another penny? Or in despair, would I turn away and choose the mighty dollar instead?

Am I saying riches are wrong? No, I am not. But you can have all the riches in the world and still be the poorest person on the face of the earth.

You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realise that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
Revelation 3:17

To live out the vision God has set for you is to live out your destiny. And there is no competition in destiny. Each of us will have to make the decision to either choose it, or to walk away from it. And if we choose destiny, we know it will not be a walk in the park, but it will be worth it. This is why Apostle Paul could confidently say:

Rather as servants of God we commend ourselves in every way: in great endurance; in troubles, hardships and distresses; in beatings, imprisonments and riots; in hard work, sleepless nights and hunger; in purity, understanding, patience and kindness; in the Holy Spirit and in sincere love; in truthful speech and in the power of God; with weapons of righteousness in the right hand and in the left; through glory and dishonour, bad report and good report; genuine, yet regarded as impostors; known yet regarded as unknown; dying and yet we live on; beaten, and yet not killed; sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
2 Corinthians 6:4-10

This year, as we study vision, I pray that God would open and reveal to you the pages of His book for your life. I pray that as He does this, you would surrender to His will and to His way. And I pray that when you come to the crossroad, you will not sell out your priceless destiny for gold and silver.

Happy new year!
